Happy Easter! When you hear, “He is risen”, I want you to respond by saying, “He is risen, indeed”. Let’s practice:  He is risen… (He is risen indeed). Great job! Try to remember this as it is a common way Christians, or believers in Jesus, greet one another on Easter Sunday.

This week, our devotional is for the kids! If you’re a kid, be sure to listen carefully as an adult reads this quick devotional to you. Also, when you’re all finished reading, don’t forget to download our family small group guide to go along with this devotional for some additional questions and discussion starters.

Have you guys ever played the game I-Spy? The game where someone looks around the room and says… “I-Spy something _______”. Then everyone else takes turns trying to guess what it is that they see. Let’s try this at home. Have an adult go first, say: “I spy something ________ (fill in the blank, try starting with a color and let the kids guess what it is you see based off of the color).  Did you figure it out? It’s an easy game to play at any time, wherever you’re at.

A good friend of mine, Ms. Sydney from church, told me that she used to play “I-Spy” with her dad growing up. However, instead of simply finding random objects around the house, they would look for ways that God was at work… this is called an “I-Spy”. When God would answer a prayer, that was called an “I-Spy”.  When God provided for a need, that was called an “I-Spy”. Maybe this week you could be on the look-out for some “I-Spy” moments of God at work in your family.

God is at work all over the place, especially in His word… the Bible. On Easter, we celebrate one of the Greatest “I-Spy’s” of all time, Jesus conquered death, He is alive. In the book of Matthew, chapter 28, there is a story of two Mary’s who went to visit Jesus’s tomb. Jesus had just died on the cross and Mary and Mary were very sad. When they arrived at the tomb, however, an angel appeared to them.

Matthew 28:5-6:  The angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here! He has risen, just as he said he would!”

Easter is a time of celebration! We can celebrate the fact that Jesus conquered death, He rose from the grave and is alive today. The Bible tells us that when we put our trust and faith in Jesus, we too can live forever in heaven with Him. Now that is an “I-Spy” I want to celebrate this Easter!
