Child Dedication
Child dedication at Grace Chapel is not the same as infant baptism. Children are dedicated in a special ceremony that signifies the parents’ commitment to uphold a God-given trust (PSALM 127:3). It is an event that symbolizes their pledge to raise their child in a Christian home and church where he or she can come to know, love, and serve Jesus. It also signifies a commitment by the people of Grace Chapel to provide a loving, biblical community that supports and prays for the family. If you have trusted in Christ as your Savior, you are invited to present your child in Christian dedication to the Lord. While many parents dedicate very young children, your child does not have to be an infant. You can participate no matter what your child’s age.
Child dedication is a ceremony of commitment that recognizes that children are a gift and that parenting is a sacred responsibility. A small child is not able to understand the commitment that is being made. Therefore, it is the faith of the parents, not the child, which is the focus of the service. Parents commit to intentionally provide a home for their child where God’s Word is not only seen but also experienced. The prayer and hope is that they will someday make a personal decision to trust Christ Jesus as Savior. At that time, the child would participate in a service of baptism which would give public testimony of their personal commitment to Christ.
